Advanced Improv: The Shotgun II
Advanced Improv: The Shotgun II
You’ve ridden shotgun once. Same engine, same trust, same people — but this class pushes past the defaults into the territory that separates a solid Shotgun from an unforgettable one. It was never just about walking together. It’s about being together. New openings, new dynamics. Move beyond the base opening — the restaurant is just one example — and explore starting points that put different pressure on the group: different stakes, different status, different reasons to be together. Scenes built from the past: Go beyond the group’s immediate reality and master scenes born from backstory — history and memory surfacing inside the present. These are some of the hardest scenes to land, and the richest. And we will spend more time here mastering them. Tag-outs and beat control: Sharpen when to tag, when to shift energy, and when to let a beat sit, so every transition earns its place, and the show breathes.
Built for improvisers ready to master The Shotgun’s deeper intricacies and take it where the first class did: on stage, in front of an audience, doing the thing — with more range than before.
Prerequisite: Training in the Shotgun long-form format.
About the Instructor: Chris Ulrich teaches classes in beginning improv, advanced short-form improv and long-form improv. He has been performing since 2003. Currently, Chris performs regularly in a number of Improv troupes including Jive Turkey, Nox, and King Bee. He has studied improvisational comedy at the Uprights Citizens Brigade and The Magnet Theater in New York, Improv Olympic and Annoyance Theater in Chicago and Los Angeles, and at the Washington Improv Theater and DC Improv in Washington. Also, he has coached and led workshops for Improv troupes in the DC area.
