Comedy School

Beginning Improv with Conor O'Rourke

Learn the fundamentals and games used in improv! You'll be introduced to the principle of "yes, and" and how it's used to weave a scene together. The class aims to help with communication, teamwork, and having fun. While students are coached to learn new games and skills, less time is spent on preparing for a performance -- these sessions help you get a little out of your comfort zone and try something new with others that want to try it too. This class is for people who have never tried improv before, and for experienced players who are looking to explore and expand their skills.

About the Instructor: Conor O'Rourke has been performing comedy for more than 12 years. He was first introduced to improv in college, and he joined ComedySportz in 2009. Conor helped create the group Porkchop Volcano in 2013, which has performed at the DC Improv, Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse, Brightbox Theater, the Charm City Comedy Festival and more. He has extensive experience leading corporate team-building workshops and has taught introductory improv classes both the DC Improv and the Comedy Spot (in Northern Virginia). Conor still regularly performs with ComedySportz and Porkchop Volcano all around the DMV.

Seating Policies

  • For our main showroom, the first show of any night is the "early" show. All other shows are "late" shows.
  • Early shows in the main showroom are seated by time of arrival. The earlier you arrive at the club, the greater your seating options will be. Please note that the size of your party will also affect what seating options are available to you, as certain tables and areas are designated for larger parties. Click here for a more detailed explanation of seating policies.
  • Late shows in the main showroom have assigned seating, and assignments are made in order of ticket purchase. The earlier you buy tickets, the better your seats will be (i.e. closer to the stage). Click here for a more detailed explanation of seating policies.
