Reading the Room w/ Anna Bethel

In improv comedy the audience is the biggest uncontrollable factor a performer faces. Join Anna Bethel to explore the skill of "reading a room" in order to harness the admiration of the audience. Students will work together in exercises to improve spontaneous mental recall and learn how to perform and moderate short-form improv games. The result of quick thinking and reacting will give a performer the confidence to face any crowd. Prerequisite: Level 1 and 2 or permission from instructor and principal.

About the Instructor: Anna Bethel is the managing director and lead improv coach with CSz, DC -- the organization behind ComedySportz improv shows. She teaches beginning and advanced improv and has been performing since 2009. Anna has performed with Sadie Hawkins, competed in WiT's FIST Tournament and done numerous customized performances for corporate clients. She has training in theater, film, sketch, and improvisation. Anna continues to coach short form improv teams locally, and she performs regularly with ComedySportz and The Blue Show at the DC Improv.

Seating Policies

  • For our main showroom, the first show of any night is the "early" show. All other shows are "late" shows. Early shows are seated by time of arrival. The earlier you arrive at the club, the greater your seating options will be. Late shows have assigned seating, and assignments are made in order of ticket purchase. The earlier you buy tickets, the better your seats will be (i.e. closer to the stage). Click here for a more detailed explanation of seating policies.
  • For our lounge, all shows regardless of start time are seated by time of arrival.
