Beginning Improv Online w/ Anna Bethel

March 16

Tuesdays, March 16 - 30, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. (three sessions total)

The fundamentals of improvised comedy strengthen communication, creativity, and connections. Even in a world of "social distancing" one can discover and nurture these traits within themselves. The innumerable skills gained through improvised comedy can aid in range from better communication with peers, up to and including conquering presentations and engaging in difficult conversations. Together the class and instructor Anna Bethel will create a supportive environment as they develop confidence and support their spontaneous thinking by playing games. This class will be conducted online via video conferencing. Participants must have a reliable Internet connection and a computer or device with a webcam and microphone.

Advanced Online Improv: Characters with Anna Bethel

March 17

Wednesdays, March 17 - 31 , 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Focus 1: Building Character. We will create new, spontaneous characters using emotions as the building blocks. Emotions have mental and physical touchstones which help to fill out every aspect of a character from mindset to mannerisms.

Focus 2: Imitation As Inspiration. Often the most intimidating aspect of comedy performance is the concept of impersonations. Rather than promoting literal mimicry, exploring once unapproachable character types opens one's range of expression.

Focus 3: Character Fun & Games. We end the session with games incorporating the skills covered in previous meetings. The games covered in this final class are the often used "party games" that a student can take away with them.

Prerequisite: Beginning Improv or permission from instructor and principal. This class will be conducted online via video conferencing. Participants must have a reliable Internet connection and a computer or device with a webcam and microphone.

Beginning Improv Online w/ Chris Ulrich

March 20

Saturdays, March 20 - April 17 (off 4/3), 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

This virtual course will help people kick-start their creative mind, meet new people, and improve teamwork skills. It can give you great new perspective on your everyday interactions, introduce you to a new hobby, or even serve as a first step into the entertainment world. Best of all, it's a LOT of fun. This is the course where you'll learn the basics of improv. You'll also learn a number of games you can play just about anywhere, learn how to develop scenes and create characters within seconds, and learn exercises to help create "group mind" to better work and act together. Remember, improv isn't just for actors -- anyone from teachers to corporate trainers to anyone wanting to build stronger teams can benefit from the collaborative art of improv comedy.
